Claiming Abandoned Usernames
What is username claiming?
In an effort to ensure usernames are put to good use, when a page is abandoned you can request to claim and take ownership of the username.
When is a page considered abandoned?
We look at several factors to determine if a username is abandoned, but the three main indicators are:
- Is the page on an upgraded account?
- Has the page been created or updated within the last six months?
- Is the page set up with working links or a method of contact?
For many usernames you can easily tell by visiting the page to check if it is likely claimable (see example below).
These indicators can also be checked and confirmed using our API by visiting api.solo.to/{username} while replacing the end part with the intended username. If all three indicators are false the page is likely claimable (see example below).
How can I initiate a username claim?
If all three of these indicators are false, you can reach out using the Help beacon to request to claim the username. While these factors are the most important, it doesn’t guarantee the username is available as there are other activity indicators we look at on our end to confirm the page is abandoned.
How much does a username claim cost?
There is a one time fee of $10 to claim an abandoned username, and users on the Professional Plan will receive a 50% discount on claims.
Accepted forms of payment for username claims include card, Cash App, Apple Pay, Google Pay, crypto, or PayPal.
Once the transaction is complete the username will be released to you in the form of a transfer code that can be accepted using solo.to/transfer.
How can I prevent my page from being claimed?
You can ensure your usernames aren’t considered abandoned and claimed by meeting one or more of the following requirements:
- Upgrade the account to any plan
- Set up and actively use your page including working links or a method of contact (such as an Email, Discord, or Telegram)
- Add a link back to your fully set up and active main page
